I believed if I could show the reality that sharks want very little to do with humans then the public might be moved to fight for their protection, as they do for pandas, elephants and bears. "Sharkwater" by

Sharkwater isn't a travel book per se, but it's changed the way I travel more than any other book I've read. This quote along with the book and the movie are what got me interested in shark travel. After reading the book, I went diving with sharks in Cocos Island, Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, two of the places Stewart covers extensively in the book. I hadn't even heard of Cocos Islands until reading the book! I later sought out other shark hotspots and traveling to dive with sharks became my new passion. I even met my husband while shark diving! I had no idea to the extent that shark finning was happening until reading Sharkwater, and now feel a responsibility to try to do my part to stop it.
